Derek is a graduate of Virginia Commonwealth University with a BS and MS in Bioinformatics and a Doctorate in Physical Therapy.

Derek lives with his amazing wife Abby in her hometown of Puebla, Mexico, and he has been writing online about React web development since 2019.

They have 2 cats, Louie (the orange one) and Yuma (the "ocicat" tabby), who mostly sleep as Derek codes with Next.js, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS.
