Generally this is actually patellar tendinopathy, or a dysfunctional breakdown of the connective tissue makign up the patella, and not a "tendinitis" (relatively rare inflammatory condition characterized by signs of inflammation such as heat and redness).

Also, it's a bit of a red flag if the physiotherapist prescribed "sitting knee extensions" (sitting and kicking your knee forward) rather than reviewing and correcting your squat and/or deadlift movement patterns.
