I think of following others as a little “hello” to other users who list JavaScript, React, Node, or web development in their Medium profiles.

It’s a free way to connect with people who might be interested in my content, without needing to sell or advertise to them.

Sure, it invites reciprocity (follow me because I followed you), but I do actually read tons of content on Medium published by my followers.

And, if someone interacts with my Medium blog by responding, I will usually read some of their work on Medium and clap for it!
