Hi Nicole Chardenet and thanks for sharing!!!
Ironically, after recruiting 3 friends to work with me at my old job, I got fired, but since then my old manager got demoted to staff and all my friends quit.
I like what you said: āIāve been doing [jobs] for the last twelve years that pay well, but leave me feeling depressed even when Iām performing well and I donāt know whyā
In my case, working a job that left me depressed ruined my young marriage, too. The combination of financial stress and mental health issues exacerbated our lack of chemistry to the breaking point, unfortunately.
And I have to agree about Universal Basic Income / Freedom Dividend ā $1,000/month would have made a big difference for me this year, especially since my meager unemployment benefits got retracted by the state after my former employer accused me of misconduct on days that I had actually been on vacation in an unemployment hearing I couldnāt attend (because it was my first day at a new job!).
The good news for me is that through choosing jobs that I am engaged with and enjoy (local gigs and blogging on Medium), it led to a half-time remote work opportunity in web development that started today!
Best of luck to you in finding a job that isnāt depressing!
