I agree! But the expectation from all of these "good job" programming companies is that you would relocate at your own expense, and then you'd be highly motivated to work extra hard due to the fact that you have no job security and could be fired at any time.

I always genuinely amazed that there are so many "why would anyone take this job" openings for in-office work for highly-paid professional programmers who can clearly work from home.
