Everyone would be better off practicing diaphragmatic breathing to correct stabilization patterns or more eccentric exercise to build strength instead of religiously performing static stretching. Flexibility simply isn't an important factor in fitness, though a lack of flexibility often indicates poor neuromuscular stabilization patterns.
