Nice article, I also experienced improved mood when I was off caffeine for 6 months. I recently tried to go back on it and even drinking a small amount in the morning (1 cup of coffee) decreases my sleep quality too much.
I would disagree with the commenters about "everything in moderation" and "3-4 cups of coffee a day is healthy" -- coffee is totally fine for some people in that you end up identifying with it strongly.
In that sense, it's highly addictive, because it's socially acceptable to say "I can't get going without my morning coffee" in a way that saying "I can't get going without my morning crack" would not be.
However, you may want to try a period of caffeine abstinence if you as a person experience any of the following symptoms: insomnia, depression, panic attacks, anxiety, or high blood pressure.
