If you sprint every day for 10 minutes over a 30 minute workout, you'll end up leaner than if you jog every day for 60 minutes.
So maybe the analogy is that quantity = a daily sprint to publication, whereas quality = a long marathon to a perfect piece.
And persistence would be the fact that you can benefit from intense training continuously for nearly 20 years. (Regarding muscle building & strength development at least.)
