I was a background actor in a Showtime TV show called "The Good Lord Bird" (a fictionalized account of militant abolitionist John Brown), and I finally got to watch it recently. One of the themes of the show is literacy and how powerful it is. At the very end, John Brown does more with his letters than he ever did with his raising an army.
