That’s a great point about our parents! In my case it’s because they’ve still never thought about retirement savings themselves, even though they are nearing 70. One of my parents has a pension, so that was always the plan. I doubt there will be anyone in the world with a pension when we are 70.

I agree about schools. We should learn actual skills we all need in life (money, savings, taxes, nutrition, exercise). But I think the economy is fundamentally set up for ignorant consumers — tax prep alone is a billion dollar industry, not to mention financial planning, fast food, healthcare (for lack of exercise), etc. Actually educating students would reduce demand, even without teaching some basic home maintenance skills like plumbing, changing a power outlet, or painting. 🙂
