Yeah, I mean it's true in all industries -- something like 10-30% of people will experience a random firing ("layoff") that effectively ends a career since US employers can discriminate legally against unemployed people for being unemployed in the first place.

It sucks it happened to you, Michelle, but it's just something that the executives put in place to keep the workers fighting over low salaries in exchange for illusory job security while they harvest the profits.
